Build a continuity ledger across chapters
Track names, ages, dates, locations, objects, injuries, rules, knowledge, motivations, promises, and unresolved questions with the chapters where each state changes.
Record the governing fact and its dependent passages. The goal is not a second manuscript but a compact map of details whose meaning persists beyond one scene.
Separate factual drift from causal contradiction
Mechanical drift includes changed names, dates, descriptions, or locations. Structural continuity failures include knowledge a character should remember, motivations the plot silently replaces, and claims the argument later abandons.
The second class often survives word search because the contradiction is expressed differently. Compare the meaning and consequence of the passages, not only repeated terms.
Fix the governing decision before dependent passages
Choose the correct fact, chronology, motivation, or promise first. Then update every passage that depends on it, including setup, reaction, consequence, and later reference.
Reread the affected span after the repair. A local correction can create a new contradiction when the governing decision was never made explicit.
