How long does developmental editing take?
Developmental editing time has two clocks: the editor's read and the writer's revision. A human editor's schedule depends on manuscript length, complexity, scope, and availability, so the quoted turnaround should name the deliverables and start date. Software can complete the initial analysis faster, but the valuable part still takes writer time: deciding which judgments are right and revising the book in an order that avoids wasted work.
